I'm Kirstie, an artist based in Aberdeen, Scotland and a recent Fine Art graduate of Gray's School of Art, Specialising in painting.
 
My practice is rooted in exploring the beauty and complexities of memory. Returning to familiar places, family photographs and childhood memorabilia, I use painting, collage and photography to revisit fragments of personal history. I am interested in painting the way memories feel, soft and slightly blurred, rather than recreating them exactly as they were.

The authenticity and innocence of children's artwork also continues to influence my practice. Gestures such as cutting, sticking and scribbling become ways on reconstructing memories, allowing unfamiliar fragments to come together into something that feels both recognisable and elusive. More Recently I have begun incorporating materials such as beads, fabrics and other craft based elements into my work, with an aim of extending memory beyond the visual and inviting ideas of touch, familiarity and connection.

My practice is a way of processing change and the passing of time, exploring how memory is constantly reshaped by emotion and experience.
